Background:  DeepaavaLi is the Festival of Lights. This year in 2021, it will be celebrated on November 3 and 4, however is celebrated over a week with associated different days with variations in different parts of India. Especially in the state of Gujarat, it is also a business New Year. The business community especially celebrate year end closing of accounting books and the following day as the opening of the new business calendar year opening the new accounting books.  Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped as this goddess is the bestower of wealth.  The Gujarati culture for the new year is to wish each other “Happy  New Year” by saying  “saal Mubarak”, which is unfortunately all in Urdu language that was imposed by the Muslim rulers on the Gujarati subjects. This is a shameful practice.
